Cultivating Leaders

Meet Parker

Parker Maloney’s scholarship gave her a chance to gain real-world work experience at one of the world’s leading children’s cancer hospitals.

I was a summer intern at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, in the fundraising office, working in the strategic partnerships division. There was definitely no “typical day” as an intern, so I got a real glimpse of the fast-paced, ever-changing business world – which I loved.

Some days I would assist in the planning of events for our top corporate sponsors, from a “Beach Bash” for Williams-Sonoma to “Christmas in July” for Kmart. Other days I would brainstorm campaign and promotional ideas for businesses interested in partnering with St. Jude. I even got to work on a corporate-wide intern innovation project. Its aim was to give me and other college students the opportunity to understand what challenges the company is facing and then research and present real solutions to St. Jude.

“I’m so grateful for the Ole Miss Women’s Council Scholarship program for funding not only my education, but also my internship. Few college students are fortunate enough to be rewarded that opportunity. I am certain it will make all the difference when I graduate.” -Parker Maloney

There are so many financial considerations that come along with accepting a dream internship, but because of the Global Leadership Circle, I didn’t have to worry about any of them.

I was able to focus on my internship experience and have an incredible time learning the ins and outs of an outstanding non-profit organization and developing professionally.
