Since 1917, accountancy students have been learning how to manage the numbers that govern nearly every aspect of our lives, modernizing with the times to now include cutting-edge data analytics degrees in accounting and taxation. Our students are in high demand with more than 200 students interning during 2018 in 20 different states and five countries.
Four Ways to Support Accountancy
When a school’s undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degree programs are ranked among the nation’s best year after year, student interest is certain to soar. The Patterson School of Accountancy is enjoying another all-time enrollment high this fall, and this strong enrollment and expanding programs are driving plans to construct a new home. The future Accountancy building will be in a prime “gateway to campus” location facing the Grove. It will be on the corner of University Avenue and Grove Loop where the Yerby Center is now located. We are finalizing renderings, with a project cost in the $60 million range for approximately 100,000 square feet. Naming opportunities for various gift levels are being established, including the naming of the building.
New Graduate Degrees in Data Analytics and Taxation
Data analytics is changing the way accounting professionals do their jobs. Because of that, our students need to possess the analytical abilities and critical thinking skills to improve procedures and deliver insights that are expected in the data age. To meet that need, we launched two new graduate programs in fall 2018 -- a Master of Accountancy and Data Analytics and a Master of Taxation and Data Analytics. These new programs have spurred growth in our school, with 219 master’s students enrolled in fall 2018, representing an increase of 70 percent from last fall.
Simply put, scholarships transform lives. Even with competitive tuition rates, it still can be challenging for many Ole Miss students and families to pay for college. Your support enables the next generation of accountants and tax professionals to fulfill their potential and make a difference in our state and beyond.
Dedicated professors define the university’s academic reputation. The influence they wield is indisputable – and invaluable. The scholars who make up our faculty not only share their vast knowledge with our students, they also fuel a love of learning and expand understanding of the world. They ignite passion for public service. In short, they create leaders. An investment in our faculty is an investment in our students, and subsequently in our academic reputation.
Ignite Ole Miss Campaign to Expand Kottkamp Memorial Scholarship
Working with Ole Miss alumnus Archie Manning to create the Fenton Kottkamp Memorial Scholarship Endowment was a way for my family and other donors to honor Fenton’s memory and highlight for the Kottkamp family how much affection and respect we hold for their son.
